Halloween is a time for treats, tricks, and, of course, plenty of candy! However, the scariest thing of all can be catching a cold from your kid’s Halloween bag.
It also rains on Halloween pretty often where I live, so over the years I’ve come up with a few ways to clean those Halloween candy bags. It also prolongs the lifespan of the bag.
Here’s a simple guide on how to wash a Halloween candy bag.
Before diving into the cleaning process, it’s important to understand why washing your Halloween candy bag is essential. Here are a few reasons:
Before you start, gather these supplies:
1. Empty the Bag
Start by emptying the candy bag completely. Sort through the candy to ensure that everything is safe to eat. Throw away any unwrapped or damaged candies.
2. Shake It Out
Give the bag a good shake to remove any loose debris, like candy wrappers, leaves, or dirt. You might be surprised at what falls out!
3. Prepare the Cleaning Solution
In a bowl or sink, mix warm water with half a HeySunday sheet. Avoid harsh chemicals, as they can damage the bag's fabric or leave harmful residues.
4. Spot Clean
Using a soft cloth or sponge, dip it into the soapy water and wring it out so it’s damp but not dripping. Gently scrub any visible stains or dirty areas on the bag. If there are stubborn spots, an old toothbrush can help dislodge grime.
5. Rinse
After spot cleaning, rinse the cloth or sponge and wipe down the bag with clean water to remove any soap residue. Make sure you get into any crevices or seams where dirt might hide.
6. Drying
Lay the bag flat on a clean towel to absorb excess moisture. Allow it to air dry completely before using it again. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading.
7. Optional: Deodorize
If your bag still has a lingering odor, consider sprinkling a bit of baking soda inside, letting it sit overnight, and then shaking it out the next day. This will help neutralize any unpleasant smells.
A clean Halloween candy bag not only looks better but also helps keep your candy safe and enjoyable.
By following these simple steps, you can ensure that your child’s treasured Halloween accessory remains in great shape for years of spooky fun. So, after the candy haul, take a moment to give that bag a good wash—it’s worth it for a sweet Halloween season! Happy trick-or-treating!
